My Five Favorite Tracks To Race On

Of course most of us are pretty far from having driven everything, so a list like this is bound to be biased by omissions. I mainly went with tracks I remember really enjoying. But anyway, here are some thoughts:

1. Thunderhill (Willows, CA) -- It has high speed, blind and technical bits, plus some pretty straightforward corners for a good mix. Works for high-powered cars. Has a 5 mile version that I haven't driven.

2. Circuit of the Americas (Austin, TX) -- nice mix of technical and classical, plus it is so wide and smooth that you can try unorthodox moves and make them work. After 50 laps you still don't feel like you've mastered it.

3. Gingerman (South Haven, MI) -- pretty technical for a short track and therefore yields more than expected passing opportunities.

4. Road Atlanta (Braselton, GA) -- Flowing and scary, but this sets up mistakes/opportunities by others (and me!).

5. Road America (Elkhart Lake, WI) -- long straights create multiple passing opportunities on every lap, plus I really like the vibe of the place.

I've driven Laguna Seca, but not raced there. I think I'd like it though and I bet it would replace RA at #5. Haven't been to Mid-Ohio or VIR, but I can see the potential.
