  • Driven: 2010 Acura TL SH-AWD 6MT (3383 views)

By John Beltz Snyder on October 27, 2009 12 a.m.

Opening the office door onto the parking lot, we shivered just a bit. It may have been the fall weather descending upon us, but the face of the Acura TL SH-AWD, it’s imposing, angular slabs of sheet metal glaring at us from under the slanted headlights and diminutive badge, probably contributed to our brief shudder. Having already seen, addressed, and come to terms with the TL’s appearance, we armed ourselves with the keys and got in.

  • Keepers: Mustang SVT Cobra—Shopping (684 views)

    By Christopher Smith on October 26, 2009 12 a.m.

“The fix” are two words perpetually connected with the 1999 SVT Cobra. To make a somewhat confusing story very simple, it goes like this: Design flaws in the intake and exhaust caused the car to make less than the 320 horsepower advertised by Ford. Average losses were in the 30 horsepower range, but some folks claimed as many as 50 ponies were missing from their Cobra. The fallout caused Ford to stop Cobra production, issue a recall, and “fix” the cars already in circulation so they actually produced all 320 horsepower. All Cobra owners were notified of the problem and ...

When the concept of Keepers was bouncing around the NextAutos office, there was a tinge of trepidation about discussing Mustangs and Camaros. Aside from the fanatical, insanely-large following enjoyed by both cars, they’ve been covered, featured, mentioned, compared, discussed, reviewed, and otherwise overblown by just about every publication on the planet. As such, you’ll never likely never see a Mustang GT or Camaro Z28 in this neck of NextAutos cyberspace, but some of the specialty models do stand a chance, such as the 1999 and 2001 Mustang SVT Cobra.

    By Steven J. Ewing on October 21, 2009 12 a.m.

The Nissan GT-R isn't an old car, and we don't have many complaints about Godzilla's mannerisms, but nonetheless, some small, yet crucial, tweaks have been made to the GT-R for the 2010 model year.

  • Driven: 2010 Lincoln MKT (3093 views)

    By Steven J. Ewing on October 15, 2009 12 a.m.

One of the most crucial things that American automakers—namely Ford and GM—are currently doing is working on building better individual brand identity within their larger portfolios. In years past, the Lincoln brand suffered by being written off as the grandfather-oriented luxury brand, offering soft vehicles with only a few more luxurious touches than similar products with Ford or Mercury badges. But recently, we’ve seen some really attractive things come from Lincoln, and Ford’s marketing representatives have a clear objective to bring new products to dealer lots that don’t plainly resemble the Ford vehicles that they’re based off of. Sure, you ...

  • Driven: 2010 Acura ZDX (926 views)

For Drivers. Whether you catch it on the front page of every issue of Winding Road or not, that simple statement of purpose helps to frame every review we write, comparison test we formulate, or opinion piece we collectively espouse. In practice, it tells us that when we encounter a new vehicle the driving experience should be at the heart of what we communicate to our readers. Our credo does occasionally put us in the slightly sticky position of finding favor with a new car or truck that isn’t particularly riveting to drive. Enter stage right, the 2010 Acura ZDX.

  • Gamer: MotorStorm Arctic Edge Is A Good Blend of Fire and Ice (369 views)

By John Beltz Snyder on October 06, 2009 12 a.m.

We’re familiar with the MotorStorm franchise mostly from the early PlayStation 3 title (simply called MotorStorm), which provided us with hours of explosive entertainment. Really, we exploded a lot. From using too much boost. Same with the sequel, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift. Knowing we would surely have a blast with it, we were excited when we received our copy of the new PlayStation Portable title, MotorStorm: Arctic Edge, to test out.

  • Driven: 2010 Mercedes-Benz E350 Sport (4725 views)

    By Tom Martin on October 05, 2009 12 a.m.

With the new E-Class, Mercedes-Benz is doing its best to get beyond the “middle child” reputation that most cars in this class seem to have. Neither fish nor fowl, mid-sized Euro sedans (e.g. 5-Series, A6 and S-Type) have lacked the sportiness of their smaller brethren, while also giving up the luxury and presence of the parent company’s flagship sedan. In the case of Mercedes-Benz, we thought the last generation E-Class was rather bland and characterless. So, when we found ourselves liking the new E350 Sport quite a bit, we were pleasantly surprised. It is still a middle of the road ...
