  • Keepers: Saab 900 Turbo (1334 views)

    By Christopher Smith on December 14, 2009 12:03 p.m.

Winding Road staffers are nothing if not hopelessly in love with quirky cars, probably because we’re quirky people. It should come as no surprise, then, that we pay homage to the King of Quirk, the Idol of Idiosyncrasy, the Pinnacle of Peculiarity, the … okay, you get the point. Straight from the land of Ikea, Dancing Queen, and the too-cool ice hotel (pun intended) comes the Saab 900 Turbo.

  • Toyota Announces Prius Plug-In Hybrid Lease Program (876 views)

    By Steven J. Ewing on December 14, 2009 9:55 a.m.

We knew it wouldn't be long before we'd see a plug-in version of the Toyota Prius, the world's most well-known hybrid vehicle. Today, Toyota has officially launched the Prius Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) lease program, which will provide 600 examples of this car for testing in Japan, Europe, and the United States. These cars will be leased to commercial, government, and universities for testing on how PHEV vehicles exist in real-world use.

  • Third Look: 2010 Ford Taurus SEL Is More Than Just A Good Value (7889 views)

    By Steven J. Ewing on December 14, 2009 9:15 a.m.

With all of the coverage that we've given to the Ford Taurus SHO lately, it's easy to forget that the bread-and-butter SE, SEL, and Limited models still offer a whole lot of goodness, even without twin-turbo EcoBoost V-6. We just spent one week with a front-wheel-drive SEL test car, and while the overall value proves to be the Taurus's best selling point, this car possesses plenty of other good qualities.

  • Video: Historic Ford Model T Footage - Driving Was Always Fun (1396 views)

By John Beltz Snyder on December 14, 2009 8:50 a.m.

The following video shows historic footage of the Ford Model T being built on the assembly line. It’s actually quite interesting. But the real gem in this clip is toward the end, when it shows the Model T driving on and off road.

  • Higher-Output BMW Z4 sDrive35is To Debut At Detroit Auto Show (1374 views)

    By Steven J. Ewing on December 13, 2009 12:04 p.m.

Is that you, M Roadster? We've fallen madly in love with the new BMW Z4, especially the 35i with its twin-turbo inline-six and Boxster-hunting driving dynamics. And while we've secretly been hoping for an M-badged version, it looks like this new model, the sDrive35is, will be as closest thing we'll get. (That's fine.) Look for the 35is to make its official debut next month at the Detroit Auto Show.

  • Ferrari Special Projects Creates P540 Superfast Aperta One-Off (2302 views)

    By Steven J. Ewing on December 11, 2009 3:17 p.m.

The first example of Ferrari's Special Projects program was the illustrious P4/5 Pininfarina designed and engineered exclusively for Jim Glickenhaus, which we had the chance to review way back in Issue 14 of Winding Road. The second car from Ferrari's one-off engineering team is finally ready for the streets -- the P540 Superfast Aperta, created exclusively for customer John Walson.

  • Driven: 2010 Jaguar XF Supercharged (11012 views)

    By Steven J. Ewing on December 11, 2009 1:30 p.m.

If you’re like us, the Jaguar XFR definitely makes your mouth water, but you know that shelling out around $80,000 for a sport sedan is better spent on a BMW M5, what with its screaming V-10 and proper manual gearbox (or nifty seven-speed DCT). But before your dreams of Jaguar driving are completely dashed, consider this—the R-badged XF isn’t the only model to benefit from supercharged power. Appropriately (though somewhat underwhelmingly) dubbed the XF Supercharged, this middle-child XF offers super-sedan thrills of a different sort for a discount of $12,000 versus the XFR.

  • Brabus Debuts 200 mph GLK V12 In Dubai (1112 views)

    By Seyth Miersma on December 11, 2009 11:10 a.m.

We like the Mercedes-Benz GLK well enough. The small SUV’s chunky styling has split opinion at the Winding Road office, but we all agree that it’s a pretty good steer, and a really nice size for real world SUV use. None of us have ever requested a 750 horsepower, 995 pound-feet of torque, V-12 engined version of the GLK. Of course, none of us work for the sublimely nutty Brabus, either.

  • Spy Shots: Renault Megane CC Caught Cold-Weather Testing (1103 views)

By John Beltz Snyder on December 10, 2009 10:41 a.m.

A fresh batch of photos from our spy shooter has arrived. The target this time: the Renault Megane CC.

  • Winding Road Special Issue 3, The Functional Issue, Now Available For Download (1050 views)

By Winding Road Staff on December 10, 2009 10 a.m.

Recently, we've discussed our love for functional vehicles quite a bit in the pages of Winding Road. Trucks, wagons, crossovers, hatchbacks, and SUVs might not be an enthusiast's first choice for a purchase, but as daily drivers and useful haulers, functional cars not only provide a perfect mix of driving involvement and practicality.
