  • Women Drivers Wanted: Take Our Race Suit Survey (194 views)

    By Luciana D'Andretta on October 24, 2018 11:24 a.m.

While we've encouraged women race car drivers for years, we've been thinking recently that the industry may not have done all it could to accommodate women with the safety gear it offers. We've recently seen some signs of...

    By Tom Martin on October 17, 2018 11:30 a.m.

IMSA recently held the traditional season-ending Petit Le Mans event at Road Atlanta. There are many things to like about this event, including a great track, relatively late-in-the-season scheduling, the day/night format and of course the cars...

  • Review: The Best Value Fire System For Road Racing (546 views)

By Winding Road Staff on October 17, 2018 11:06 a.m.

Fire suppression is somewhat like life insurance: a topic that isn't all that much fun to talk about, but a necessary one, nonetheless. We have found a fire suppression system that we think checks just about all the boxes, and so could be said to be the best value on the market. That system is the...

  • What F1 Can Teach Us About Club Racing: Vettel vs. Verstappen At Suzuka (1354 views)

    By Tom Martin on October 10, 2018 11:43 a.m.

At Suzuka we got additional F1 lessons for club racers. Sebastian Vettel, after a bad qualifying session where he ended up P9, was charging through the field in a desperate attempt to limit Lewis Hamilton's championship points lead. Vettel made it up to P4 when he came up on Max Verstappen's Red Bull. Vettel went inside, the Ferrari and the Red Bull came together and Vettel spun.

  • No Passing At COTA? You're Doing Something Wrong. (890 views)

By Winding Road Staff on October 10, 2018 9:59 a.m.

Here we ride with Winding Road Racing team driver Tom Martin III for the first few laps of a recent Spec MX-5 Challenge race at Circuit of The Americas. Martin, along with fellow drivers Noah Grey (07 white) and Harry Voigt (09 blue), demonstrate that there are multiple pass and re-pass points around the F1 track. In particular, T1, T11, T12, T15, T19 and T20 offer passing opportunities in many cars. Passing in the esses is trickier, but if you are significantly faster it can be done, especially in T5/T6.

  • Why Are So Many Drivers Confused About Blocking? (1804 views)

By Winding Road Staff on October 03, 2018 10:57 a.m.

This week, F1 went to Russia and we were again treated to a demonstration of blocking techniques. Impressive, to us, were the confusing justifications given by commentators Johnny Herbert and Paul DiResta. These guys are former F1 drivers, so you'd think they'd know more than club racers like us, but a stupid justification is a stupid justification even if Einstein gives it. More on that in a moment.

... I was very intrigued by the Apex Pro after hearing Andrew Rains, Marketing Director for the company, talk about the unit at length on the SlipAngle Podcast. I was also impressed by its simplicity, iOS app functionality, and price-point. The Apex Pro is focused on providing feedback while you’re in the car at speed on the track.
