MTM AUDI Q7
An Audi Q7 augmented with some tender loving performance from the folks at Motoren Technik Mayer.
The folks at MTM have taken an off-the-shelf 4.2-liter Q7 and strapped on a great honking supercharger and intercooler, as well as a bespoke stainless steel exhaust, with the result being a healthy 500 horsepower, a bump of 150. Given that a stock 4.2 Q7 rings up at a not inconsequential 5300 pounds, this is a useful enhancement. While a 0-60 time was not available, MTM maintains that a similar example tuned to 475 horsepower tripped the timing lights at around 5.3 seconds—substantially quicker than the 7.1-second time of the standard 4.2.

MERCEDES-BENZ SL600
Our test car benefited from the new Direct Steer technology, which will be available on the 2010 SL550 and SL600 models in North America. This added dynamic ingredient mechanically varies the tooth width of the rack-and-pinion steering for easy high-speed directional stability as well as more direct steering response when the maneuvers get tighter at slower speeds. A default on-center steering ratio of 15:1 is kept, then from there it can descend to as tight as 10.5:1 at 360-degree steering input. Again, this is all done mechanically at the rack, so it responds immediately and not fuzzily as with BMW’s disturbing Active Steering. We like this technology a lot, and it really came in handy when maneuvering the bulky SL600.
