We recently learned how the next generation Maserati Quattroporte is going to look, and we genuinely like what we see. And with a recent report out on Auto Edizione, we now know what will be powering Maserati’s big luxury sedan—turbochargers. To be specific, the 2013 Quattroporte will feature two biturbo engine options in V-6 and V-8 guise. Highlighted by aluminum construction and direct injection, the two engines will be a significant departure in technology and philosophy from the current car’s naturally aspirated V-8.
The biturbo 3.0-liter V-6 will make 410 horsepower and should propel the Quattroporte to 60 miles per hour in around five seconds, and onto a top speed of 177 miles per hour. Select the bigger 3.8-liter V-8 on the options list, and horsepower jumps to 530. Put your foot to the floor and 60 miles per hour will be dealt with in about 4.7 seconds, and the big Italian will keep on pulling until it reaches 191 miles per hour. The new engines will be mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, which can put power to the ground through either a rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive system.
There are still no details on price for the new Maser, but keep an eye here for those specifics when the Quattroporte debuts in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
