Why is the magazine font so giant!

Look i know you have statistics on how much geriatric readership you have but you must do something about the font size. the elegant design of the page spreads and best-in-the-universe photography gets completely ruined by a font that is best suited to a 1980s ViewMaster screen size or possibly as seen from space.
If you cant make the layout flexible enough to resize/reflow then you should at least force people with under 1024x768 screens to zoom if they need to.
It should be equivalent to 10 pt magazine size but it looks like 50 pt on my 1920x1200 24" monitor.
