Get rowdy with the 94-96 Chevy Impala SS

I distinctly recall visiting a local Chevy dealership in 1994 and begging the sales manager to test drive a new SS. Okay, so I guess that's not very rowdy, but I know there are some folks out there who've achieved greatness in these cars. Share your stories!

  • If the Impala SS is a "keeper" the 2003-2004 Mercury Marauder should definitely be one too.

I just bought a 96 Impala SS in DCM and I always wanted one in that color. I also have a Silver Birch 04 Mercury Marauder and I've always wanted one of those too. I'm 24 but I remember back in 1994 when I was 9 years old my dad and I were driving through Northern VA and as we were driving on the Highway I remember this distinctive Brand New black bad azz sedan with paper tags just flying past us along the shoulder. My dad was pissed that someone passed us along the shoulder unexpectedly and I was falling in love. From that moment I told my dad I want one of those and when i get old enough I'll get one.

  • Ive been the proud owner of all of the tri 90;s impala ss,damn near bullet proof and now that they are aproaching 20 yrs old they are just as viable as ever,When these were made Americans were thirsting for power!!!And they delivered in spades, yet seeing these cars being driven to the grocery was a common sight, yet the corvette derived LT-1 (iron block and heads)might have been heavy it also gave the cars longevity-many people made "clones" from older cop cars which had the same everything as far as mechanics now have milage in excess of 300,000 miles with the only notable difference being extra tranny coolers ,an extra tranny brace and most important !silicone hoses that in my opinion are worth their weight in gold as ive never been able to kill a single one in the AZ desert. I think this says it all-this comes from their ad campain and i quote "A T-bone in a era of oat bran".Other cars have been made after theses were in production but the Impala SS was the savior we needed to keep away from another SUV or MINI van. As to the fords-they basically just copied the Impala after it was out of production for 4 years -and that was the problem for their sales as it wasnt the innovator just a copy, and it was just too big to be sporty in the tight corners(ive owned one)and the performance was just not as viseral as the impala,Its a great car its just not a bad boy!The Impala was the cool kid in black leather-the Marauder is the kid that put on the cool kids jacket when he left and never filled out the shoulders and put WAM patches on it.
