Vintage Video Vendition: Robotic Grace Jones Finds Citroen CX a Tasty Treat
We've seen plenty of vintage car commercials that make us scratch our heads in bewilderment, but after seeing this vintage spot for a Citroen CX, we're sporting some deep scars in our scalp.
We're sure Citroen hired actress/singer/Bond bad girl Grace Jones to match the CX's techno-chic image - quite sensible for '80s-era French consumers. What we're still trying to make sense of is why Jones would pop the clutch, and launch the Turbo into the mouth of a giant-sized anamatronic replica of herself while screaming her love for the five-door.
We're not saying all French automotive fare isn't worth a taste (we know of at least one that is), but after watching this ad repeatedly, we're left with some severe Gallic indigestion. Zut alors...

This commercial was also used in part of her 1985 "Slave to the Rhythm" video. Grace expressed everything that was daring and avant-garde to the French of the time - Citroen probably wanted the CX to be viewed in the same way. (not a stretch, considering...)

I'm not sure what to make of the fact that the tires screech on sand? Or knowing Citroens, maybe it's the chassis or the suspension creaking.

"I’m not sure what to make of the fact that the tires screech on sand?"
Have you never walked on a beach and heard the sand squeaking beneath your feet?
Same thing...
