This week we’re riding shotgun in Formula D competitor Mike Feiock’s Mazda RX-8 drift car at the No Star Bash 2015 at Gingerman Raceway. Mike’s rotary-powered RX-8 cranks out between 550 and 600 horsepower depending on the setup and tune he’s running on a particular day.

From the passenger seat we get a great perspective on the fine art of drift car control, as Mike demonstrates the delicate interplay between throttle and counter-steering required to keep the slide angle where he wants it while also heading down the track on the appropriate line:

Wear headphones! The audio in this video was recorded with in-ear binaural microphones. With headphones or earbuds on, you’ll feel like you’re actually sitting in the driver’s seat.

We upload new videos every week that give quick insight into what our weekly test cars look, feel, and sound like when they’re being driven joyfully. If you haven’t already, subscribe!
