Back in April we were at the helm of the 2015 Volkswagen Golf R, and this week we’re taking a look at a Golf of a decidedly different flavor.
It’s not the first time we’ve checked out VW’s all-electric Golf – we had a brief stint during the MK7 launch about a year ago – but now we’re getting to spend a bit more quality time with the eGolf to take a closer look at the details.
The eGolf ‘s electric motor produces 115 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque, which propels the hatchback from 0-62 miles per hour in 10.4 seconds, and tops out at about 87 mph. The eGolf’s 24.2 kWh lithium-ion battery gives the eGolf a range of up to 118 miles before it needs to be recharged.
With destination, the eGolf rings up a total of $36,265, and that includes LED headlights, an eight speaker audio system with a 5.8-inch touchscreen navigation system, leatherette seating, power seats, door locks and windows, and a three year/36,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty (with a five year/60,000 mile warranty for the powertrain).
Let’s go over the details in our walkaround video and then hit the streets:
