WRR First Laps: Horsepower Matters at Road America

This week we're onboard with Team Winding Road Racing driver Tom Martin III in the team’s 2006 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car for the Group 10 / Modern GT feature race of The HAWK International Challenge at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin in July.

This is multi-class vintage racing, so you'll see the Team Winding Road Porsche Cup car (450 hp on 2700 lb) running with IMSA GT cars, including Patrick Bean's Chevy Monza (DeKon tube frame Monzas were IMSA Camel GT champs in '76 and '77 with 650 hp on 2400 lb.) and Theo Bean's IMSA GTS Nissan 300ZX (Clayton Cunningham tube frame 300ZXs won Daytona and Sebring in 1994 with 750 hp on 2650 lb).

As you'll see in the clip, Road America is an interesting track when you’re faster in the corners and slower on the straights.
