WRR Broadcast Guide – January 29th – February 1st, 2015

News, Racing I By Bradley Iger I January 26, 2015
This early in the year, many racing series are still getting geared up for the 2015 season. While we wait for some of our favorites like Formula One, DTM, and Pirelli World Challenge to get back on the track, here’s a few choice videos from the WRR TV archive that will scratch that itch for some racing action.

Watch as a damp course spelled disaster for a pair of racers during the second race of the 2014 season at Road America of the Pirelli World Challenge series:

The same incident captured from a trailing car:

Next, ride along on board the Winding Road Racing/Jagermeister BMW M3 in the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association group 8 race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. On the start, our hero makes a dubious gear selection, then gets brake checked and finds 6 cars passing him before turn 1. Watch as he attempts to regain position, while exhibiting the gentlemanly behavior required of vintage racers driving sometimes irreplaceable cars:

In this video, Winding Road Racing driver Tom Martin comments on the basic approach to driving a lap of Buttonwillow’s popular 13CW configuration in a SRT Viper T/A. With 640 hp, turns come up quickly. And with street tires, cars like this require thinking your moves out in advance to get braking and turning right on a track day:

In The Big Engine That Could, a group of regular guys participates in The 25 Hours of Thunderhill, the longest endurance race on the US road racing calendar. Not only that, they have selected an unlikely beast of a car to race — the Ford Mustang — an American icon that is bigger and heavier and technologically simpler than the competition.

But they have a weapon, not exactly secret: the 450 hp Boss 302 V-8 from Ford Racing.

Will The Big Engine, and a lot of heart from Team Winding Road’s 16 crew members, be enough to finish this grueling race and possibly stand on the podium in class in the December 2013 running of the 25 Hours?

Win or lose, The Big Engine That Could will be a film of the process, the thrills and the problems of endurance racing, with behind the scenes coverage of the team’s progress and plenty of in-car footage:

When you’re done with those, get your hands on some classic DVDs to keep you busy when the pros take the weekend off.
