Winding Road Video: 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 Tires Up In Smoke

By John Beltz Snyder

July 25, 2011

When we traveled to Willow Springs, California and drove the Chrysler Group’s 2012 SRT8 lineup (including a lengthy drive in the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8), the tires on the cars, understandably, underwent a lot of wear and tear on the track. At one point, the tires on a Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 were slated for replacement in just a few minutes, and of brand representatives decided the rubber should go out in style (i.e., in a huge cloud of smoke).

We were able to get out our camera phone and catch some footage of the most excellent brake stand in the pit lane of Willow Springs Raceway. You’ll notice some other vehicles barreling through the resultant smokescreen at triple-digit speeds on the front straight. Also, our own Chris Amos has added in a timer so we can conveniently see how long the driver kept the rear wheels loose.

A few minutes later, the car was back on the track with a new set of tires.

If you think you have a video of a burnout that rival’s this Dodge’s, we want to see it! Or, head over to our YouTube channel for more great (and better quality) videos from Winding Road.
