The Winding Road Hot List: Volume 5

Features, Lifestyle I By Winding Road Staff I December 28, 2012
As the Winding Road Showroom continues to grow, we come across lots of cool products that we geek out over, whether it’s a must-have automotive accessory, flashy watch, high-tech gadget, interesting book, or gorgeous car art. Here in the Hot List, we have gathered a few that we really like, and we think you’ll enjoy them, too.

This week, we have some more cool apparel, film equipment, and a beautiful Aston Martin replica.

Did you have a successful gift receiving season? Or did you get a bunch of crap you don’t really need? Well either way, leave all that stuff out of the garage. After a month of gluttony and indulgence, it’s time to go back to fundamentals. When it comes to your ride, all you need to add is less. Blipshift offers its shirts for a very limited time, including this one, so snag it while you can.

It was a special year for American Formula 1 fans. Celebrate F1’s returns to our shores with these Austin Grand Prix T-shirts. There are several cool designs to choose from. We’re particularly fond of the ones that show the F1 car’s silhouette.

The gorgeous fiberglass body has been faithfully copied from drawings, pictures and measurements from the original. Underneath, the DBR1 replica has a lightweight triangulated space frame chassis and is built to the highest standards. The engineer has designed a chassis that is lighter, yet stiffer than the original giving the Replicar DBR1 a weight just over 1700 pounds. Powered by a 1.8-liter engine producing 130 horsepower.

The Corvette has been a popular model for a very long time, now, and has gone through a lot of changes over the years. The perfect poster for any Corvette lover, this poster highlights Corvette model years 1953 to 2003 and was a 50th anniversary release. It measures 24 by 36 inches.

Designed for use in either the rear- or forward-facing positions, the RECARO ProRIDE Convertible Car Seat offers multiple safety features such as side-impact protection, a head restraint, and a vehicle belt lock-off mechanism. Plus, an ergonomic shell structure, mesh fabric insert, and easy-to-use harness and head restraint adjusters provide comfort and convenience. With an upper weight limit of 70 pounds, the ProRIDE offers the highest weight capacity available for convertible car seats with a five-point harness system.

The Hunziker shoe collection has its roots in Nic Hunziker’s original paintings. The  "wearable art" design of the shoes is based on iconic liveries of vintage racing cars. The wearable art concept also applies to what is on the inside.  Each insole depicts artwork, taken directly from one of Nic’s original paintings. The leather-lined insoles also mold to your foot so they are comfortable as well as stylish.

If you haven’t yet, read our blog post about driving in a presidential motorcade. If you’re a fan of automotive historical geekery, you might dig this die-cast model of a Chevrolet Suburban from the Commander In Chief’s motorcade.

We use GoPro cameras in a lot of our videos. This is the newest and most advanced version, the HD HERO3 Black Edition. It’s 25 percent lighter and 30 percent smaller than previous models, which makes it great for mounting. It is capable of capturing ultra-wide 1440p video, and includes a wifi remote.

Attach your GoPro camera to roll bars, tubes and more. Fits 1.4-inch to 2.5-inch (3.5-cm to 6.35-cm) diameter tubes. Perfect for clamping your camera to the radiator cap (both metal and plastic caps) on karts. You can also clamp to bike frames, bumper bars, ski/surfboard racks, or anything else that is in the size range above. Comes with pivoting orientation arms allowing for three-way adjustability, ensuring you can get the angle you want.

We will never get tired of watching this documentary. Ever. Experience the evocative eras of Formula 1 from the drivers seat. Breathtaking on-board rides with legends Fangio, Moss, Stewart, Senna, and Schumacher driving their exotic machines at historic Grand Prix circuits from the Nürburgring to Monaco, Spa, Suzuka, Monza, and more.
