The Hot List: Volume 29
By James Bradbury

Every week we sift through a truly amazing amount of “stuff” in the dozen or so hours we spend online—you know, the time spent not driving sweet cars. A lot of the cool stuff we find has to do specifically with new cars, naturally, but there’s also a huge amount of awesomeness that doesn’t completely fit in the normal Winding Road world. Once, we were in the habit of simply reading, watching, or talking amongst ourselves about this web detritus, but recently we thought it might be a good idea to start sharing it with you all. Thus, The Hot List.
We aim to bring you a list of the most interesting bits of information we run across. Ten worth-knowing-about things that may or may not be related directly to the world of cars, but all of which we think our typical enthusiast readers will be able to really dig into. We don’t know, from week to week, what will show up on this list, which is part of the fun for us and for you.
Read, enjoy, and comment. If you happen to know of something that you think would make for a good inclusion on next week’s list, drop us a line at Editor@windingroad.com
What we have here is a double-barreled pistol accurate enough to put two bullets through an orange at 15 yards.
Is the eight-megapixel camera in the iPhone 4S just not cutting it for you anymore? You might want to check out Nokia’s new 808 PureView Smart phone. The PureView packs a 41-megapixel sensor, Carl Zeiss glass, and a microphone that won’t distort up to 140 decibels.
The SNAP Skateboard combines aircraft grade aluminum, high strength steel, and modern engineering techniques to make a foldable skateboard that doesn’t compromise anything to conventional wooden boards.
Now you can get a bike that looks like something Spiderman should be shooting out of his hands. That’s pretty cool, in and of itself, but the Delta 7 Arantix is one badass hard tail. Using carbon fiber and Kevlar weave the bike frame weighs in at just 2.74 pounds.
If the idea of the largest high-speed amphibious vehicle ever doesn’t get you excited, maybe the turbo diesel engines (yes, plural) producing 500 total horsepower will? The Phibian can travel fast enough to get you ticketed on the highway, upwards of 30 mph on water, and make the transition between car and boat in less than ten seconds.
One of the few upsides to having hipsters all over the place these days is that you can still find 35mm film for relatively cheap prices. The LOMO LC-A+ Silver Lake is limited-production-run analog camera, wrapped in real brown leather, and sporting a Russian-made Minitar-1 lens. If you manage to get one in time you’re one of a lucky 1000.
For those who value style and audio quality, M2TECH has you covered for a cool $1600. Capable of handling sampling rates up to 384 kHz and 32 bits, the Young DAC takes the load off your digital receiver and looks damn fine doing so. High speed USB and just about any other port you could possibly need are neatly concealed on the back.
Snap your iPhone into the Apptag Laser Blaster and satisfy your inner man-child by slaying your friends in augmented reality laser tag.
Do you frequently find your memory cards being run over by 1.5-ton vehicles, floating in the ocean for 24 hours or less, or being fried by magnetic waves equivalent to an MRI machine? Samsung has officially redefined the word “overkill” by creating a class ten SD card that can do all of the above.
If you have six grand to blow and you need to relax, don’t buy drugs; buy this daybed! An anthracite stained, satin lacquered, solid beech frame is topped by a SEDEX upholstered mattress, and then covered in the leather of your choosing. Snazzy.
